natural dye workshop: week 1

posted 26 September 06 & filed under dyeing

finally, a little write-up and about a dozen pics from last weekend’s dye workshop. this coming saturday will be the second session and we’ll be dyeing – can’t wait.

this is a sampling of some of the colors you can get from natural dyes using different materials. if people say you can't get bright colors from dyes, remember that was what was used for all textiles until the late 1800s!

This is a great post. I’ve seen knitting iris’ dyes before and I love them. Really, really nice. I’m looking forward to some future installments and some natural dyeing on the porch! Any ideas where I should get yarn to dye?

Also, I still have your niddy-noddy, so I guess I’ll just have to see you so that you can get it back. Do you want to do lunch today? I’m working from home, so I’m close enough to do a pop-down for a Koreatown lunch if you’re game.

What a great set of pictures. I’ve been doing some home-dyeing with Kool-Aid and was going to try cake dyes next. This is definitely the next step. Where are you taking the class?

That was really interesting! thanks for sharing! I would love to learn how to do this..

great post! I’m curious about dying a sweater already knit up. probably not a good idea since everything has to be cooked…? Look forward to your future installments.

Keep sharing the colors!! The hints of a dreary fall are already creeping into the upper midwest over here, so I am thriving on this inspiration.

Look at those gorgeous colors! Nothing like the dull, barely-there hues that “natural dyes” suggest. Can’t wait to see more of what you are learning!
