"Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? Oh, I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

i didn’t mean to hibernate as long as i did, and in reality it was a hard-working hibernation, not the sweet sleeping that the groundhog is doing in the previous post, but now i think i’m ready to pop up and say hello again. hi!
just a few catch-up things:
my project spectrum card arrived a while back and is fabulous – as you can see. thanks jennifer! here’s hoping mine has arrived by now in good condition – i’m worried it may have gotten lost in the mail..
my week in maryland was great but, as my brother just agreed, the length of it “pretty much sucked” :( – six days is never enough, and in this case, three of those days were filled with conference-attending. this meant there was a whole bunch of stuff i didn’t get to do – including just chilling out, cooking, meeting up with some great people, driving around & enjoy maryland, etc – so the night before i left i was downright pissed off at myself and cranky as all. ah well.
the conference, however, rocked. a day or so before i left, i started a library blog, which i intend to keep up, and officially blogged the conference, which is a great great way to meet and socialize with other conference attendees/bloggers. i’m so glad i went and i’m really looking forward to internet librarian this fall in monterey – barring any weirdness, i totally intend to go.
very fun.
i’ve been spinning – and how! – and i also stained my wheel a natural color, i.e. no real stain at all. however, even though i agree logically that darker stains might obscure a little the detail of the wheel, as kitty kitty put it, the darker stains do make the wheel look more “rumpilstiltskin”-y. so! dark i go. let’s hope i don’t regret it ;)
knitting has also been happening. first, just for fun, to see what it looks like, a bit of my first handspun on the minstral, and then, yes, that’s a finished and blocking fair isle bag. yay! and just in time – mj’s norwegian knitalong ends this week and i’m determined to have it seamed, lined, and finished by thursday. i’m pretty happy with my fair isle techniquie, though i’ve steam blocked it like there’s no tomorrow, which helped a lot with odd tensions and such.
and that’s it. in ten weeks i graduate with a masters in library and information studies. in six or seven months, i’m moving somewhere. lots of changes coming – and i have a very bad habit of falling apart and freaking out when change approaches, particularly graduations. as much as possible, i just want to conclude this bit here with as much grace as possible. for now, fiber, books, music, and my cats are keeping me sane.
hope your weekend was beautiful ~

off to san francisco for the day in just a few hours ~ so very excited! i intend to enjoy every moment ;) in the meantime, a few links and a pic for you..
first, project spectrum has begun! every month, and maybe even more often, my background will change* to reflect the colors for that month and, as you can see, this month is red and pink. so i picked a, i think, great shot of.. can you guess what? answer below, thought not upside down ;)
here’s the progress on my fair isle bag ~ i’m happy with it so far. colorwork is really really fun to do and just speeds ahead. i was even able to fix an error a few rows down – totally not as hard as i thought it’d be. i’m taking it with me to s.f. to show off to meowgirl, yay
~ check out the new spindlicity! it’s been re-designed and is just pure eye candy, really lovely. the patterns are cute (felted tea holders!) and the articles (flame yarn!) are good. and there’s a little book review in there by me, too.
~ the new magknits is up as well (and isn’t knitty due soon?) – i especially like the delphine wilson-inspired top
~ i want to go trapezing. i’d feel like a bird, how cool would that be! this spinner posted about her own swinging and now i’m googling like mad to find l.a.-area resources.
~ things like these little containers recycyled out of old contact lens cases make me happy
~ cute elann free pattern alert
~ if you’ve read the last harry potter book, read this – a very interesting theory. warning: spoilers abound in the url alone, so don’t even hover over the link if you haven’t gotten through book six yet
~ another great reason to work in a library: library cats map
~ the internet archive, always incredible, has a great selection of classic cartoons, including the eerily-pitched betty boop and annoying woody woodpecker. very fun.
~ last but by no means least, congrats to all you knitting olympians! you make me proud
happy march ~ ~

[answer: right, blood! maybe initially disturbing, but really, we all have it; without it, we’re dead; and shoot, it’s pretty to boot. just think, we’re all walking around with all this red inside of us! is it only me that finds that fascinating? ;) ]
update: just got back. had an excellent time – everyone should be so lucky to hang out with meowgirl – and though my legs are exhausted from walking (what a wimpy angeleno!), i now know that a majacraft rose is in my future for sure. exactly when, i don’t quite know, but that’s the wheel for me, hands down. more later.. it’s almost the weekend, yay

i love the different colors of wood, and in my apartment there’s a couple different types that really appeal. since you all have seen only the table – again and again, in every photo it seems ;) – i thought, hey i like this floor, let’s just take a pic there. so, yup, my pretty (dusty) floor. also, a nice sideline view of what all old buildings in l.a. have, that is, long metal bars for earthquake proofing, supposedly. and see all those cracks between the boards? a total haven for crumbs and kitty litter – what a lovely combo.
the most important part is the yarn, of course. a little treat from me to me (there will be many of those this coming month!) via nordic fiber arts. i loved knitting my flenten hat, and really enjoyed the whole fair isle process. so, on to #2 for the norwegian knit-along. aren’t the colors lovely? oh, it’s a bag featured in the summer 2004 IK.
as for the lace leaf pullover, i’m a bit stymied, but taking it in stride. grafting was interesting and i think my results were pretty good. seaming is usually fun but for some reason, after that first sleeve, i’m putting off the second. one thing i do know, it fits, and it actually fits big, which is what i wanted. i like little tops, but i’ve been really wanting to knit a comfy sweater for a while, so this totally fits the ticket.
randomness: i got a cellphone! a pre-paid cheapy thing, but i like it a lot, plus i have a crickets chirping ringtone which is every so soothing and fun. next, i’ve read that carbohydrates trigger the release of seratonin, which has a calming effect, so bring on the potatoes!
i’ve kind of lost track of things this past week – i was all excercising, and eating healthy, and on top of work, and this week, as par course when the quarter is nearing its end, i let it all just go flppppp. old habits returning, hard-won changes disintigrating. so, last night was my indulging watch-tv-and-barely-move time whereas today so far has been Productive. cross you fingers for me, please. i’m turning 29 in a week and i feel very un-adultish. what i want for my birthday this year is Stability. is that at all possible? you tell me.
nonetheless, happy weekend ~
*a new overall background coming up march 1st to celebrate the first month of project spectrum. be very excited.
