i’ve come to one, hopefully a big one, at least in regards to this site here: for lack of a better term, being a comment whore is .. well, silly.
what’s a comment whore? simple to determine: if you say yes to two or more of the criteria below, you’re one too.
~ you don’t post more than once or twice a week in hopes of gettting more comments
~ you find yourself muttering/praying/squealing “double digits! double digits!”
~ even though you have a long list of daydream posts (to be defined later if necessary), you still don’t post in hopes of accruing comments on current post
~ you look at your log/flappr/bloglines number a lot
~ you ungraciously feel maligned by those who you know are reading but still do not comment (edited to add: i so don’t mean this as a complaint! shoot, i don’t comment all the time on other’s writings, and i totally don’t expect others to either. rather, it’s an example of my comment-obsesssion. funny, right? ha ha? hm.)
yes, i’ve been guilty of them all. i blame it on a un-commented youth blog-wise. bring out the violins, i know, but really! i didn’t get any comments for a long time (months and months) from anyone when i first started this out (except for amanda, who will always have a special place in my heart as a result ;) ) so now, my appetite is just voracious.
but. revelation, right? right. so, yup, it’s all silly. there’s toooo many posts i have already written out, in my head at least, practiced in my car a dozen times, but i just haven’t posted them.
therefore, i’m determined to break this pattern, starting now with a short video i made a whiiiiile back, enjoy!
caveat: having recognized it as silly does not mean i won’t fall off the wagon every once in a while, but know that as i do, at least i’ll recognize it as such ;)
(the film bit takes about 30 – 40 seconds to load, give it time, ok? and yeah, i know i twist my mouth and crinkle my face a lot when i talk, what can i say.)
[if you can’t see the movie, try clicking here]
(also (can you tell i’m a bit nervous about posting this? ;) ), the weird pauses by me in the beginning were due to sounds of fighting i could hear from my window, sounds i hear way too often sadly. for info’s sake, especially regarding hair!, this video was taken in late september. )

i can now track and see who visiting this page using google maps, see? [via rogue librarian, yay she’s back]
and another new online knitting mag: menknit! i’m already thinking about the lacey tank ~ for me ;)
i love web voyuerism: people posting pictures of their kitchens. the only rooms that are more fun to look at are craft & studio rooms (what’s in my bag is fun too.) [via etches-johnson].
in his latest alertbox, jakob nielson writes about Weblog Usability: The Top Ten Design Mistakes. some of the ‘mistakes’ i don’t really pay much attention to (coughnumbers3,7and8cough) but the last two definitely caught my eye:
9. Forgetting That You Write for Your Future Boss
10. Having a Domain Name Owned by a Weblog Service
the last one, because when i set up my first site (uuf, that takes me back. there used to be a lot more there, some of it you can see here) back in 2002, i was always bothered by the popups, hated the limitations geocities put on me (no php!), and felt pretty uneasy about having all my hard work be somewhere else, where i didn’t control it. i definitely kept backups, though to a certain extent, i forced myself to say fuckit a lot, just to be prepared for the worst. once i moved to my own domain, i felt much better. though, if some disastrous problem ever happens and i didn’t make a timely backup, there’s no one to blame but myself. gulp.
number 9 caught my eye because it’s the same question i keep thinking about on and off for months now. for now, my full name appears on this site, as well as my employer’s name, my general geographic location, etc. i used to post my whole resume, including phone number and address, but i got rid of that. i just don’t know which way to go in terms of privacy versus disclosure.
i sure wouldn’t want to work somewhere where i could be fired for the things i’ve written here, that would be ridiculous! but i also know that as more and more people in my ‘real’ life (no offense, dear readers!) know about this site, the more nervous i get about posting about sad stuff or really anything negative. in reality, i tend to be a person who keeps her cards close to her chest, you know what i mean? so here, this very public thing is such a release, an escape. but in some ways now, that’s diminishing. hm.
anyhow, no answers, just out loud wonderings.
when i was little – like all kids, i’m thinking – i loved loved twinkies. i tried out a few months ago and it was disgusting. now, i still love junky food (i.e. sour candy of any type!) but i was really surprised with how bad that twinkie tasted. ugh. and for some reason, i still keep thinking about it.
i want a “organize your life” software. really! at the very least, any recommendations on good and cheap/free mac applications that help with any/all of the following: budgeting, schedules, to-do listing, shopping, etc?
thanks ~ and on the horizon: an actual finished knitting thing! some pics of my ugly but fragrant soap (i’m thinking soap felting..) & more.

my website and email and life is back up. seriously, deprived since friday—which feels like so long ago—of no email or website was driving me nutso. it was a little scary in fact how much a difference it made to not have these things… !
i’m still having problems with my email—if you want, or just really need to reach me ;), leave a comment here and i’ll get back to you using another email account..—all set and back to normal. if these pages look funny or load weirdly, please tell me!
anyhow, with that done i feel calmer now and off i go to buy a dress for the upcoming wedding—etiquette is a bit of question here. what kind of dresses are appropriate: short? sleeveless? black? white? you get the idea. the only info i have is it’s a wedding in the evening (6 pm) and will be officiated in the cathedral in palermo. so.. off to shop i go.
it’s a happy day today in so many ways – and the future is looking good.

i did a little measuring this morning (i woke up an hour early to do this – is there any surer proof that knitting has become quite a priority?) and sure enough, the gauge was exactly 12 stitches in 4” (well, 12 and 1/8.. but basically on) at the beginning but quickly changed to 13 stitches in 4”.
thanks to a suggestion from my great secret pal, i’m going to do the smart thing: re-swatch! yup, tonight. i’ll knit it up on 10 1/2s and then on 11s and then stretch it all out and mist a bit with water and see what happens.
re-measuring the body, it didn’t seem quite so small as it did last night. definitely not as loose as the picture looks but not so bad either. now i’m thinking i could just make the large size sleeves, yoke, and neck, and that might be ok. hmmm. we’ll see after tonight’s already planned events.
in other news, ask jeeves bought bloglines! what does this mean? it’s still unclear though a lot of people assume we’ll start seeing ads on bloglines—irritating to say the least, though many would argue ‘free’ can’t last forever. however, there are always alternatives and, i’m sure, even better alternatives will be cropping up in the unhappy case bloglines gets totally evil. plus, bloglines makes it real easy to export (using OPML) your list of blogs so you can easily switch aggegators if you want to. anyway, for now, bloglines still is the best news aggregator out there.
(btw, this news came from a blog i just stumbled on: napsterization.org. it’s edited by a grad student at berkeley’s sims school and “focuses on positive, fair-use and legal examples of peer-to-peer file sharing of works approved by their creators for sharing”. sounds good to me.)
also, just stumbled on this: according to a recent study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 5% of internet users in the u.s. in 2004 used syndication technologies (i.e. rss) to read “news headlines and other content.”

hi there ~ so yes, i’ve been quite a busy bee lately with this here site. you might not have noticed that this section has moved from the vague ‘article’ sub-directory to the much more friendly ‘journal’ sub-directory. as such, unfortunately, the rss/atom feeds have moved to mellowtrouble.net/?rss=1§ion=journal.
bloglines should notice the difference within a day or two, as should all the other news aggregators out there. however, you can just cut and paste the above url into the subscribe box in bloglines, for example, and that should do the trick a little sooner.
sorry about that, but really it’s much cleaner now, isn’t it? ;)
in other news, still web related, i changed my booklist from oddbook to my own blend. as for my audacity in calling it a library, especially when the links go to powell’s bookstore, i figure, hey, this is the library in my mind, the books that fill up my head and pester me with ideas, memories, and other funny stuff.
about the powell’s affiliation thing, here’s my disclaimer, as posted on the bottom of that same /library page: “i’m not trying to make any money off of any of this, i just wanted to be able to post the book cover pictures because that’s prettier and more interesting. i didn’t want to be affiliated with amazon, so i went with independent-bookstore-powerhouse powells. theoretically, i would get a comission off of any purchases through this site, but a) i’m not really expecting a dime, and b) if i do get a dime, it’ll go to a charity. which? not sure. if you have any ideas/inclinations, please tell me.”
and that’s a wrap.
p.s. two knitting news bits: i’ve started on my topsecret sweater (thanks amanda!) and i just gotta say my secret pal rocks – she wrote me a song this morning. boy, that’s one sure fire way of cheering me up when i wake up, as usual, grumpy and cranky; it had me immediately laughing and humming.
p.s.2 my button i made for secret pal was posted today, yippee! you can also see it on this page by clicking on the link above, to the right, that says ‘rings’. i got the image from that great free stock image site i mentioned earlier.

hello ~ man, i love this background image – ever time i look at it i want to shiver with both excitement at seeing snow as well as shivering becuase it must be so cold in that picture… yeah, yeah, i’m so snow-deprived, i’m getting silly, i know.
anyhow, as you can see, (unless you’re rss-reading, if so, get thee here!) i finally did the big old redesign i’ve been yammering on about for a while now. and i love it! i have some nice ideas for the rest of the site (such as the bolivia, projects, fotos, etc, sections) to hopefully tie it all together but that might take a few days.
i finally caved in and made this page display three posts at a time. the main reason i didn’t want to for so long was, at first, because i didn’t want to be a ‘blog’ (for pure anti-social & slightly snobby reasons) and to me a blog meant a) comments accepted, and b) a descending list of five or so posts. then, later, i didn’t want to have more than one post because i was trying to be all neat and keep this page to an ‘above the fold’ read (the fold being that invisible line where, if there’s content beneath it, you have to scroll beyond it) – but reality hit me after a while: i’m a chatterbox. and my posts were rarely short enough to stay ‘above’ the fold. (maybe it’s due to all the ellipses and parentheses – i’m obviously a big fan of both… hee.)
and now for some credit where credit’s due: the beautiful image comes from that great free stock image site i just stumbled on stock .xchng – specifically this one here. i’ve always love birch trees – all the more since my semester-abroad junior year in college when i lived in moscow for five months. appropriately, i just realized that the photographer is russian himself. yay for russia and their beautiful birch trees. css-wise, i adapted my css from purselipsquarejaw.org, a design i’ve been eyeing enviously for a year now.
if you haven’t figured it out yet, that menu/nav bit has disappeared to the home page, as reminded by the little link in grey on the upper-left hand side of this page. the calendar & war statistics (sigh) are still on this page – you just gotta click on the links on the upper-right hand side that say, resepctively, ‘cal’ and ‘war’. also, i added a ‘rings’ thing so i could put in a link to the librarians & archivists who knit ring, of which i am now proudly a member.
in other non-techie news, i’ve decided i need to (not necessarily in this order): ride the bus/subway more often, try and make eye contact more often with random people on the street (for years now, i’ve been doing the duck-and-hide thing), and carry deoderant with me in my backpack. you live, you learn.

so, the quarter is almost almost done. after class tomorrow night and then class tuesday afternoon, i’ll be officially done for the year 2004. all the work is completed already (that’s a first for me ever, yay. finally!) but the final projects still have to be presented, so once that’s done, i’m done. i am officially webbed out though – in the last week, i basically created or made major revisions to three different web sites/pages. i am pooped and have very little feelings in my fingers left.
i have plans on buying a christmas something-or-other tomorrow.. i just can’t make up my mind if it should be an actual tree (which would have to be teeny or else it’d make me depressed about my apartment, but that doesn’t matter much, i like little things) or just a garland. basically, i want the smell of pine in my home now, but the idea of a tree, my own christmas tree, kinda freaks me out. so adult-ish.
i blocked my sweater tonight, i’ll seam wednesday night at the latest. it looks so pretty all laid out, here’s to hoping my seams act nice and the sweater will still look as pretty when all seamed up. i’m imagining a lot of satisfaction and happy dancing around once i get it done and actually put it on. hee, i can’t wait.
other than that.. i’m discovering i’m in some danger of becoming one of those people who always complain. i’ve made a note of it and that’s all i’ll say about it for now.
i’m thinking more and more about librarianship and less and less about archiving. one seems more snooty, the other more accessible. one is easier to find jobs in, the other harder [not the right word. maybe ‘more anal’? i’m not even sure since i’ve never been a librarian, but archivists/record managers are a little too ‘detailed-oriented’, let’s say, for me..] and with crappier pay. thank goodness i’m taking another year for school.
everything is pretty good for me right now, but it’s just hard to stop and realize because i’m so dang busy, i hate it. ops, complaining again, huh. but, in a backward way, i was also doing the opposite, appreciating life and all that. hm.
p.s. btw, work-wise, we raised over $185,000, wayyy over our goal of $115,000. very cool and very exhausting. oh, and color-wise for this page, think snowflakes (says a snow-deprived angeleno).

hello. so today is the big thank-god-it’s-once-a-year fund drive at work ~ that’s why it’s 7 am and i’m up. most people arrived at work this morning at 5:30. me? i’m sleeping in and not getting there till 8:30. and then we’ll all be there probably till 7 tonight when the thirteen hour marathon ends. (it actually is called a marathon. huh, never thought i’d participate in a marathon.) my job has been the website so please check out my hard work, it’ll make me very happy: supportpra.org.
i’d been racking my brain for days trying to find a not dumpy but sleek thermometer-goal-reaching bit of code online, you know, to show graphically how much money we’re raising, how close we are to our goal. well, everything i found looked horrible, all pixelated and cheesy, and just not in keeping with the pretty clean look of the website. sometime yesterday afternoon a little lightbulb went off and i thought ‘aha! what about that bar-percentage-thingamajig all those knitting blogs?’ so, i went off in search of it.
(wahoo, just got a call from work, already raised $9000! 8% of our goal reached. phew, it’s going to be a long day. at least i get the fun part of upping that precentage bar every hour.. ;)
anyhow, so i couldn’t find the original source for the percentage bar thing, i looked all over the place. i know, i could’ve just taken it off a site that used it (like the excellent passioknit – such pretty pictures!) but i wanted the original, sure to work. however, the woman who originally put it out, her blog ‘Anna Knits’ was nowhere to be found. and then, another aha (this is really engrossing to you, i know.. ;P ) and off i went to the internet archive. score! from feb. 2004, here’s the page.
so, to save others that run around, here’s my copying and pasting of that same info:
“You might find something completely different to use it for, but I use it to display the percentage of a project done.
There are only 2 variables to set, and you can integrate it easily into more complex code, like I have here, or update it manually very simply. You can set the color and percentage to anything you want.
To put it on your site:
~ First download the Flash file. (Right-click and “Save Target As…”) Copy it to your own server. Make a note of where you put it!
~ Wherever you want to put the percent bar, paste this code:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,29,0" width="102" height="17">
<param name="movie" value="(path)/percentbar.swf?percentage=100&colorout=25BFE0">
<param name="quality" value="high">
<embed src="(path)/percentbar.swf?percentage=100&colorout=25BFE0" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="102" height="17"></embed>
</object>
~ Edit the colored parts of the code, changing the “100” to whatever percentage you would like to display. Change the "25BFE0" to the hex code of whatever color you would like to use for the progress bar. Finally, if you didn’t put the Flash File in your root directory, replace "(path)" with the path to the swf file. If it is in your root directory, omit "(path)" altogether.
~ You’re done!”
update: the anna knits is back up—seems it was only down those few days i desperately needed it ;)—so go there for better, prettier, and the original information.

so i’ve been going crazy with textpattern recently. here’s my lovely list that maybe maybe i can get done (crazy!) before i leave this monday.
i need to break out the old italian books very soon and do a little studying ~ needless to say i doubt i’ll do any such thing until actually on the plane, perhaps even descending into fiumicino airport.
last night i had a delicious nachos meal a la hull family ~ delish indeed! chips, refried beans (pinto and black = fancy), extra sharp cheddar, lettuce (in a bag, easy easy), ripe tomatoes, spanish rice (from a box, easy easy), sour cream, salsa.. all in little bowls, then combine on plate one at a time, or as a mountain, or whatever floats your boat. i love finger food! (r.i.p. julia child)
how beautiful is this magazine: phildar tendances?! also, i ordered vogue knitting: ultimate reference book after loving the copy from the library. since i can’t knit, i’m stocking up on eye candy, um, i mean reference and pattern books..
update: got the calendar on the left there working, yay! (though it’s a little shakey-looking. gotta work on that later.)
posted 13 August 04 & filed under vacation paradise, web-talk
yay, i’m off! the last few days have passed in a blur ~ but a beautiful blur. i have a list of good places to go to, including bookstores and yarn stores, and i’m taking my ipod, lots of yarn, great books, and a comfy p.j. or two ~ i plan on doing a lot of relaxing and sleeping. it’s a working trip but i’ll be in nice hotels, with soft sheets and cable tv. oh ho, a life of luxury for me!
plus there’s all the exciting saa workshops and panel discussions, such as:
too bad i have no power suits to wear (ha). now, if only my hair will be obedient for once in its life ~ then i’ll be fine. if not, ay, lots of stares as i have pretty BIG hair and with east coast humidity added ~ sigh. i better pack a lot of hair gel.
so, in other news, i installed textpattern! for now, to see past posts, at least the last ten, see the drop-down menu on the left or click on the ‘older’ tag below to go through each post one at a time. i know, i know, not the tidiest. but i already feel kinda insane for doing this big switcheroo literally two days ago. i still got to add the comments from before and most of the pictures. also, i’m trying to get up a calendar like i had before but i’ve run into some snags. more info on textpattern soon ~ but so far, very exciting and definitely challenging.

update: yay! i got my comments working again. phew, that was embarassing and frustrating since i get so few and get just wayyy too happy when i see them.
dagnammit, my comments are down again. i really like lunarpages, but i’m pretty annoyed at their recent ‘security’ upgrades (suPHP); it’s driving me nuts.
for now, till i get the comments working again, here’s a nice photo.. that’s my sweet cat pepper ~ i got her in 6th grade and she died last year, at the age of 13. appropriate for a black cat. awww, she was the best cat in the world.
also, for knitters out there traveling to/from/around the u.s., news from the transportation security administration (i kid you not): ” Knitting needles are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage. However, there is a possibility that the needles can be perceived as a possible weapon by the TSA screener. TSA Screeners have the authority to determine if an item could be used as a weapon and may not allow said item to pass through security. TSA recommends the following when bring knitting needles on an airplane:
Most of the items needed to pursue a Needlepoint project are permitted in your carry-on baggage or checked baggage with the exception of circular thread cutters or any cutter with a blade contained inside. These items cannot be taken through a Security Checkpoint. They must go in your checked baggage.”
hope you got a good chuckle out of that., along with some disblieving shaking of the head..
happy friday!

happy friday! as always, so glad to see the weekend. so glad it’s a little ridiculous.
i wrote about some web color tools earlier, but here’s some more to add to the list: color.twysted.net is bee-you-tee-ful! and this color palette will be mighty useful. was is it about color guides and tools that soothe and please me so much? something to do with reviving often-flagging enthusiasm over my site. everything feels all brand new. silly me. mezzoblue linked to this good article from boxesandarrows on selecting colors found in nature
where libraries and web design meet: a section of the loc online has just been redesigned and looks pretty shnazzy, besides being xhtml 1.0 transitional valid and, if you have an old browser, they have a link directing the user to webstandards.org! hip hip hooray! (it’s a shame the linked page has to have all that distracting text at the top about spam alerts and all that.) now, if only they could get the main loc page to look a little less stodgy..
ia happiness is this new findability site. i’m very happy to note that on the libraries & literacy section, it says “the ultimate search engine is a reference librarian.” yup, that is correct.
i never head about this cluetrain thing and i don’t have time right now to read all ninety-five declarations but a few things: i don’t like how the ideas are all distanced from each other and numbered, makes it seem more pretentious; all of it reminds me of a kind of annoying the-whole-world-has-changed! tech rant that i remember reading about before the whole dotcom burst; good ideas but still seeming like a corporate marketing plan; and, of the ones i read, i like #7 best: ‘hyperlinks subvert hierarchy.’ i think i’m years late in talking about this thing, but better late than never, huh.
willful infringemnet is a new film about one man’s fight with disney over ip. this article talks a bit about the film, which includes commentary by (my favorite) carrie mclaren from stay free magazine, negativland, and more. maybe i can get vidiots to get it..
i’d been dreading yesterday all week long and now it’s over, thank goodness. it went well, actually. it was just looong. last night i went to bed pretty happy knowing thursday was over. i have much to fix, but for now at least, the overwhelimg sense of instability has lessened incredibly. cross your fingers for me..

hi~
my site was down all day yesterday and much of saturday too. i am mighty pissed off at my hosting company especially as i have gotten no word whatsoever from them, despite repeated tickets/enquiries. argh.
i had a test this morning that, knock on wood, went well, i think. i am now in the computer lab at school missing my afternoon class so that i can finish my afternoon class’s paper. i have three more hours to finish it and so far i’m pretty happy with it. more details on the paper (don’t groan, i swear it’s interesting, super interesting!) later.
mecurial-mood girl that i am, my weekend was still good. i need to learn to recognize that when it’s happening, not after the fact. acutally, i’m pretty good about that but something about papers and tests just puts me in an escapist mood and then i just can’t see the forest for the trees. (i always love that phrase..)
i’ll write more later and sorry for not writing (back) some people recently (i.e. sandra, nicole, mirko, caroline, and maria)—but i have a good excuse: my email was down all weekend! dang hosting compnay-people… mumblemumble, blah blah blah.
bye, andrea!

run ralph run! (votenader.org)
i’ve been playing around with cms (content managment systems) and trying out a few different ones. but i think ultimately i couldn’t move this site over to a cms versus how i do it now, all by hand. for me, it’s all about control, i guess ;P. when i started learning html and all, it was through my free pop-up-ugly site at geocities. the very first page i put up i used geocities’ online editor called pagebuilder or something like that. and even then, knowing practically zip about even html, i knew it sucked and that it limited me, besides bloating up the code so much and looking horribly ugly. so! i’m not saying this site, and its code, is a thing of minimalist beauty, or any other type of beauty. but i like knowing i can tweak or entirely change a single page or the whole site really easily.
and, most importantly, if something goes wrong, i know it’s my fault and that makes it a lot easier to find and fix. with all that said, i did install an old version of textpattern (can’t wait till the new 1.x version comes out today!) this past weekend at m.mellowtrouble.net and so far it’s fun but still confusing. i also want to give a tryout to wordpress and moveable type. btw, many people would not call any of these systems cms but rather ‘blogging tools’. i’ll write about that another day, when i understand better the distinctions.
my weekend was good but too fast as always. this morning i decided to just skip my first class for the quarter—i was just too dang tired. and there is a proper way to skip class and that is to not do it when: a) something is due or is being handed out, b) during the first two weeks of class, and c) during the last two weeks. and always, skipping class when the class size is smaller than the number of weeks the class lasts is a pretty bad idea cause you will be noticed as missing. this is the third-to-the-last week of school so it’s now or never for me. sigh.
pretty disturbing enviromental news out there (“Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us”). i think i’m going to change the index page pretty soon so hurry up and check out this incredible preview to a new documentary called ‘the corporation’.
i have never understood why, at least in principal, i haven’t heard much argument for libraries to be open 24 hours a day. i think so many people cannot make the hours of 9-5 (though in today’s budget-slashing views of libraries, even those hours are no longer the norm). and, such as my local branch library, many smaller libraries are not open on sunday and/or have really limited hours all weekend. so, yay! for the university of hawaii! which beginning march 8, will be open for 24 hours on mondays, tuesdays and wednesdays. though realistically, many if not most libraries cannot, in this current political climate, be open all the time, that really should be part of the ultimate goal for accessibility.

oh i love rain! it’s raining so prettily. i need to remember to bring my camera to work cause i’ve got such a crazy view from where i sit- the 101 freeway just zips by in the very-near distance, and ventura blvd and the gas station right across the street just add more concrete to the view. definitely not the most beautiful nature kind of view.
i just put up on the index page a preview for an upcoming documentary, the corporation. i don’t like having proprietary stuff (i.e. quicktime) on this site but it’s hard to find open-source movie-viewing programs. or am i wrong? if you have a dial-up connection or don’t have quicktime, then ok. but if neither of those two apply to you, then please check out the preview to this really incredible documentary.
yesterday morning, i finished (just barely) my big paper for my analytical bibliography class after a sad long all-nighter. i wrote about this incredible book from 1493 called the nuremberg chronicle- and wow, this book is just gorgeous! with over 1,900 woodcut prints, it was the most illustrated book for a long time—and don’t forget gutenberg had only perfected his whole moveable type process thirty years before this book’s printing. anyhow, the paper itself was eeek but the topic too cool.
my poor fridge has a major problem and the way only was to fix it (temporarily) is to de-frost it every two weeks for a few days. argh! vacya figured out if we keep the fridge and freezer doors open with the heater turned on full blast right next to it, then 48 hours seems to do the trick fine. ..in the meanwhile, i’m a ramen and pb&j type of girl.
i’m working on making the ale website a little interactive/more fun by adding skin options. the idea of skins for a website always seemed weird to me and even scary but that just means changing the colors on the site, of the fonts, background, everything. so, looking around, i found a whole lot of cool color-helping tools, like this, this, this, this, and last but not least, this.
i have that “everybody’s working for the weekend” song in my head.

hello.
i feel like it’s been so long since i’ve done anything with this site but really i have been working hard on backing up everything here and also getting this site all on dreamweaver on my computer-wth-no-web-access at home so that i can work from home on this site and then just upload it off a floppy at work every week.. anyhow, for now, i added articles from the women’s movement, particularly the tyranny of structurelessness by Jo Freeman and the tyranny of tyranny, Cathy Levine’s reply. that’s it for now, hopefully i’ll get more up soooon.
bye, andrea
