little silky handspun scarf

finished: may 15, 2010
pattern: none
yarn: spindlespun silk mix from carolina homespun

there’s a reason i have so many projects from may-ish of this year – i attended the maryland sheep and wool festival and had such a great time. it’s an amazing festival. plus i won ribbons for my handspun!! that was such a thrill.

just a simple garter scarf. it’s a bit short, but that’s all the fiber i had ;) and anyhow, it’s nice to have something soft to tuck under a jacket but not worry about the ends.

the special thing about this scarf is that it’s handspun, on a spindle. i loved loved spinning this – i couldn’t stop myself and i think it was all spun up (and then plyed on my wheel) within a few days max.

i can’t for the life of me remember the name of the fiber but i know i bought it from carolina homespun, as i did the spindle. there’s silk in there, for sure, and maybe cashmere as well, it’s so darn soft.

here’s what i wrote on my blog post about it: “spindling! on a beautiful 22 grams spindlewood company square spindle. for those of you who think spindling is not for you, i say try another spindle – there’s such a variety out there, the odds are great that if you like spinning, then it’s just a matter of finding the right spindle.”
